How To Select The Right Chimney For Your Kitchen

Kitchen chimney is rapidly becoming a popular household appliance, and many people are opting to buy one for their kitchen. It helps in eliminating the smoke and harmful fumes that are generated at the time of cooking food. The chimney also helps in absorbing the oil particles that are released in the air while preparing food, and they are being thrown out by its exhaust system. The chimney becomes a useful item of the kitchen to keep it clean and muck free. It also adds beauty to the style of modern kitchen as is an integral part of kitchen interiors. However, there are different types of chimneys, and each comes with different specifications and maintenance needs. They also vary in size, as well. There are a few things that you have to look into when you plan to buy a chimney for the kitchen of your home. Here is a helpful guide for you that will let you determine which type of chimney is suitable for your kitchen.

Type of Mount
Chimney comes in two types of mounting, the wall-mounted chimney, and the roof-mounted chimney. The wall-mounted chimney is fixed against the wall and above the cooktop. The hob is also located adjacent to the wall. The roof-mounted chimney is generally located at the center of the chimney, away from the wall. This type of chimney usually hangs from the ceiling and above the cooking top hob. The type of chimney that you choose mainly depends on the size and specifications of your kitchen settings.

Filter type
The next thing that you need to notice is the filter type of chimney. The chimneys come with three different types of filters. Baffle filters, cassette filters, and charcoal filters. In kitchens where there is too much of oil and spices used for cooking, a baffle filter is ideal. The filters have overlapping layers of steel and aluminum for changing the direction of airflow and separating grease and spice particles in the air. Suction power is not affected due to grease accumulation in the first layer, but it needs regular cleaning for the best performance.

Cassette filters are made up of aluminum mesh that has tiny holes for trapping particles and purifying air. Oil and other particles get stuck to the mesh as the air passes through it, boosting the purification process. It needs bi-weekly cleaning from being clogged and to perform well.
Charcoal filters have layers of charcoal granules that eliminate odor effectively. Mainly optional, it comes along with baffle and mesh filter, and it needs to be replaced in every six months.

Air suction capacity
It determines the capacity of the chimney to absorb smoke, oil, and odor. It is often measured in cubic meter per hour (m³/hr). You must select a chimney based on the size of your kitchen, and it should be able to recycle the air at least 10 times in an hour for being effective. Chimneys that have a wide hose are more effective at pulling out the air rapidly. To know and calculate the effective suction power based on your kitchen size, you can use the following formula of width x length x height x number of times air should be recycled in an hour.

Size of chimney
Most of the chimneys come in a standard size of 60 to 90 cm. Select the size based on the size of the stove and kitchen. Ideally, the chimney should be larger than the stove for effectively extracting air out of the kitchen.

Features and Price
There are different brands that manufacture chimney, and each one have different features and price. Depending on the features, type, and size of the chimney, the price is determined. See all the necessary things before you make the move of buying it. Also, check the price, whether it is affordable to you or you are getting any better option in the price range of yours.
